Success Stories

Siemens Energy

Organisation: Siemens Energy

Sector: Energy

Location: Global

Company size: 1,200 + employees

About: Siemens Energy is a global leader in energy technology. The company develops and operates energy systems, ranging from power generation and transmission to industrial applications and renewable energy.

The Challenge

Siemens Energy supports employees across multiple global offices, with a strong focus on mental health particularly in industries where suicide rates among men are high. Their wellbeing strategy includes a team of 60 staff, Mental Health First Aiders, and Wellbeing Champions, and covers health topics from menopause to cervical cancer.

Despite these initiatives, the company faced challenges with data reporting, sickness absence tracking, and consistent documentation of training and wellbeing activities across locations. The accreditation process provided an opportunity to highlight areas for improvement and implement proactive steps to strengthen support for all employees.

Why the Workplace Wellbeing Charter?

Health and wellbeing are top priorities for Siemens Energy. In 2020, the Head of the Wellbeing Committee wanted to attain external recognition for their initiatives and discovered Health@Work’s Workplace Wellbeing Charter.

In December 2020, they were awarded the Workplace Wellbeing Charter for the first time and successfully reaccredited in 2023 and 2025.

Although the company had previously achieved high marks, including ‘Excellence’ in most standards, the team wanted to showcase progress made since the last accreditation, particularly in culture, diversity, intoxicants, and leadership, while continuing to push for improvement in all areas.

The Accreditation Process

To achieve the Workplace Wellbeing Charter Accreditation, Siemens Energy used the Charter’s framework to review existing policies and practices against the eight standards.

The process highlighted gaps in training documentation, which led to the introduction of a mandatory psychosocial awareness training programme for all managers. This equips leaders to understand root causes and support employees effectively across a wide range of wellbeing issues.

As a business with a predominantly male workforce, Siemens Energy ensures that employees receive not only traditional health and safety training but also comprehensive support covering mental health, financial wellbeing, and social support.

  • Excellence rating in Health & Safety
  • Excellence rating in Intoxicants
  • Excellence rating in Attendance Management
  • Implementation of psychosocial awareness training for managers

The Verdict

Health and Wellbeing Lead, Sarah Preston reflected on the process:

“I think we can improve still on all of them [the eight standards], even if we’ve been marked as ‘Excellence’. There’s still a huge amount of work that can be done to improve every day, especially as the workplace wellbeing landscape changes so regularly.”

Declan Doyle, Learning & Development Officer, Health@Work, said:

“It was great to watch Siemens Energy’s commitment to integrating wellbeing across departments and teams. Focus sessions with the wellbeing leads over the year have been instrumental in turning strategy into action. What has stood out most is the consistency of effort and the willingness to listen and adapt. As their consultant, this makes my role especially rewarding”.
